Door’s Always Open Journal is an Indianapolis-based literary and art journal that publishes and prints once a calendar year. Each issue centers a different season of the Midwest. Our first issue in 2025 featured the winter season, and our second issue coming this October will highlight the season of autumn. We love artists and poets who have been writing forever, and we love artists and poets who are new to the scene. All are welcome. Sales from each issue will always be donated to a community-driven mutual aid/charitable organization.

We believe that it is important to state our ethos. We, at Door’s Always Open, believe that there are no borders on stolen land, and no human being is illegal. We believe ICE should be defunded and abolished. We believe that Black lives matter. We believe that trans rights are human rights. We believe in a free Palestine, Sudan, Congo, Haiti, Iran, and liberation for all oppressed peoples.

There’s a Midwestern way of saying goodbye, which is to linger at the door and stay longer. There’s always one more story to tell or question to ask. Even when we do say goodbye, the old adage is that we can come back anytime; the door’s always open. Please, come on in. We want the poetry and art community in Indianapolis to be a door, opened always, welcoming anyone to make themselves at home. We find our way to open mics, to readings, to art galleries by way of another poet or artist holding the door open and saying “please come in.” Door’s Always Open Journal aims to do that in print.
